Every street shot has a backstory—sometimes as important as the image itself. Here the backstory is gentrification.These cool places in the El Paso barrio are disappearing in favor of urban redevelopment. Some of the coolest dive bars in West Texas are no more. Goldies is a prime example. A first rate third rate watering hole with Marilyn’s alluring countenance on the exterior. Like I once said in a short story “Gone from the city charts but never from our hearts!”

The Palm employed a business model which involved reaching out. The owners were up late every night but patrons could reach out whenever.

Two Tecates to go, please! In case you’re interested, this light was too good for even a top of the line Nikon sensor to capture its full effect. This was the first time I ever saw AI …from God so to speak.

It is just possible that a cold winter’s afternoon like this one in El Paso produced the greatest light that I ever saw. Hell, it’s so good, they play the Sun Bowl there! This time of year, every hour is Golden.
